Died at home March 13, 2011 at the age of 90. Survived by sons Ron (Roberta Allen) and Leo (Maralee Gordon); grandchildren Robin (James) Hackett, David, Jeremy (Rosalie), Ari (Nicole) Gesher, Jacob (Michal) Gesher, Benjamin Isaac Gordon-Schlosberg; nine great-grandchildren; and special friend Daniel Berger; pre-deceased by twin sister Sophie Shulman, sister Pauline Gaibel; and brother Jerry Goldberg. She was a life-long social activist beginning in high school during the Great Depression. She educated herself in the social sciences. When her sons were in high school she began studying via correspondence courses of the University of IL and received a degree in social work from Roosevelt University. She had a long career with the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago, becoming one of their longest-serving employees. She continued studying through classes in the Lifelong Learning Institute at Northwestern University until she was recently stricken with terminal cancer. She was a role model and mentor to many women, and will be missed by a wide circle of family, friends and neighbors. She was a moral and financial supporter of many causes, especially women's rights. Shiva visitation at her home on Tuesday and Wednesday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and in Woodstock on Thursday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
